A demonstration is taking place tomorrow over the threat of closure to Hengrove Park.
A political storm has been whipped up over the council’s proposed plans to remove funding for staff to supervise the park, a rare luxury.
To some, however, this means the park is at risk of closing.

Is this the only staffed playground in Bristol? I can’t see how that’s justified. I have been there a few times many years ago and I don’t remember it being a particularly nice park to visit, and I can’r recall there being supervised play. A bigger concern I would have thought is staffed adventure playgrounds and playschemes, like for instance the excellent one at Windmill Hill City Farm which no longer runs due to staffing cuts. A park is where kids go to play on their own if they’re old enough or with parents if they’re young. Don’t see why it has to close unless they’re suggesting people in Hengrove can’t play nicely.
Hengrove Park has upwards of 100,000 visitors a year and is visited by people from all across South Bristol, so let’s not start talking down to people who live in Hengrove please.
And let’s not set up a hierarchy of need here. Cuts attacking any kids facilities anywhere are a disgrace. It’s time we all said bollocks to this.
I didn’t say people in Hengrove couldn’t play nicely I merely pointed out that could be inferred from it being the only staffed playground in Bristol. As for hierarchy of need – I wonder how you think everything can be funded given the cuts the City Council are being forced to make?
