Cube fundraiser at the Old Vic

Unique may be an overused word, but the Cube Microplex in Kingsdown is a bonafide one-off.

The Cube has its own recipe cola, feral trade coffee shipped from Central America and gives free tickets to asylum seekers.

In 2010, some of its volunteers traveled to Haiti to screen films for earthquake survivors.

And by the end of 2013, it needs to raise £185,000 in order to buy the freehold to its home and ensure its future survival.

Following a £90,000 grant from Arts Council England, the biggest fundraising event yet is taking place tomorrow at the Old Vic.

Don’t Look Now will feature famous original soundtracks, guest artists from Bristol and beyond, huge orchestras and cult actors.

One particular highlight of the night, compered by Dudley Sutton, is sure to be a reinterpretation of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 RoboCop, performed by Tectonic boss Pinch and Punch Drunk/Idle Hands regular Bass Clef.

Other acts performing in an event programmed by Qu Junktions include The Greatness of the Magnificence Orchestra playing Ennio Morricone, Goan Dogs playing Edward Scissorhands and I Know I Have No Collar playing OSTs from Hal Hartley’s films.
