‘My Cool Bike’

‘My Cool Bike’, a new book celebrating love of bikes and bike culture, features a short section on the fixed gear scene in Bristol, focussing in particular on the Fixed ‘n’ Chips rides organised by Gavin Strange.

This is Gavin’s bike, casually balanced on the Suspension Bridge:

Fixed ‘n’ Chips sees participants race to checkpoints around Bristol that are all fish and chip shops. They can arrive at the shops in any order – the catch being that more points are gained if the rider also eats a battered sausage or mushy peas at each stop.

“I’m just doing my bit and putting another tick in the box for Bristol’s diverse cycling community,” says Gavin.

We have one copy of ‘My Cool Bike’ to give away. To win, simply tell us your favourite place in Bristol to get a battered sausage and why. Email competitions@bristol-culture.com.

On Sunday, Gavin is organising a cycle ride called Gromit Unchained, which will tick off as many Gromit Unleashed sculptures as possible in one day on two wheels.

Meet at 10am outside Roll for the Soul.
