The Farm

Visiting The Farm on King’s Road in Clifton Village felt like cheating on a girlfriend with her twin sister.

For this used to be Lahloo Pantry, a cafe which swiftly became one of my favourites in Bristol during the tragically short two years it was open.

It was where my daughter celebrated her second birthday, was known by name, first walked up stairs unassisted; it was where I celebrated part of my 30th birthday; it was where I regularly brought friends and family.

if I ever chucked in the writing business and opened my own cafe, it would probably look and feel very similar to Lahloo Pantry.

So The Farm has a lot to live up to. And it’s a perfectly pleasant place. It’s just not what it used to be.

The layout hasn’t changed at all, with an unusual three-tiered space – the counter at the entrance, a mezzanine floor with tables and then more tables downstairs with the added bonus of a small outside area backing onto the Clifton Arcade.

Open on weekdays from 8am, breakfast options include pastries, bacon or sausage sandwiches, toast and porridge, with a full English costing £7.95.

Credit should be given to new owners, sisters Kate and Sarah Farmer, for their decision not to completely move away from speciality tea, and there are about a dozen options to sample as well as different types of coffee from Easy Jose where before there was only the option of one filter coffee.

“we. love. food” declares the menu, and lunch goes some way to proving that – including harissa chicken served on Moroccan couscous (£8.50), a super food salad with feta cheese, quinoa, beetroot and green beans (£7.95), as well as sandwiches from £2.95.

It’s always sad to see a business go, especially one with as much heart as Lahloo Pantry, but the mourning period is now officially over and The Farm has skilfully filled the void.

Had lunch at The Farm yesterday with family after hearing all about its relaunch ~ wanted to report back that the food was healthy fresh and SO DElicious! Sadly the service was not SO impressive! The Sisters might just have been having an *offf* day {we all have those now and again} but there was not a lot of love or smiles being given for free! Disappointing as the atmosphere of a place needs to match the food in order for return visits. Shame.

We recently held a business meeting at The Farm, myself and three colleagues. The food was freshly prepared, quality ingredients, really impressed. We ended up staying there for a couple of hours. Have been back since and found it equally as good as my first visit
