The Real Wrap Company

A fast food outlet with a difference has appeared on the Clifton Triangle. The Real Wrap Company’s mantra is “redefining fast food”, and a visit there yesterday confirmed that this is somewhere that is looking to serve good, healthy food fast, in the same way as Magic Roll and distinctly unlike close neighbours Triangle Grill or Hunger Hatch.

My El Jefe wrap (£3.95 with free drink as part of an opening offer) was very well-made and packed full of complementing flavours. The chorizo, feta, spinach, mushrooms, onions, hot chilli and mayo made for a substantial wrap. The wrap dough was firm, almost crispy, nothing at all like the wraps found in supermarket where the dough is soggy and lifeless. The wrap dough here forms an integral part of the taste of the wrap.

It’s not too taxing to understand what The Real Wrap Company does. As well as a selection of real wraps and pizza wraps, there is also a make-your-own option or the choice of a salad box, perhaps not the most popular choice in the wee small hours of the morning but a nod to something a bit different to kebabs, burgers or chips.

Like Magic Roll over the road, The Real Wrap Company can be enjoyed as a daytime venue as well as a place to stumble into after a night out in nearby La Rocca.

The synthetic grass that makes up the outside sign continues inside on the foot of the walls and on the ceilings, there are framed photographs for sale, and two smart black leather sofas once again give the impression that this isn’t your usual fast food establishment.

The mostly student clientèle yesterday lunchtime patiently waited a few minutes for their wraps to be made, watching the snow on the news on the flat screen television, with most choosing to stay in and eat rather than venture out into the cold.

Eating your wrap in or eating it out, however, it still gets served wrapped in paper. And there’s no cutlery inside, so it’s then the challenge of eating the wrap without its contents spilling everywhere.

The Real Wrap Company has arrived into a busy lunchtime market in this part of Bristol, with Pret, Greggs and Subway just around the corner and local favourites Magic Roll and Rocatillos nearby. But on the evidence of the healthy fast food served here, they deserve to succeed.

Our experience of The Real Wrap Co has been excellent – a really fresh + trendy venue serving fresh + trendy food. We loved the ambience – natural slate walls + oak floors, plenty of seating (unlike magic rolls), it was spotless + the staff were lovely. Definitely a fresh take on fast food + they the thumbs up from us! P.s. There IS funky enviro-friendly cutlery on their front counter!

this place is a joke… they are never open and when they are there is no one ever in there.
If you ask me, it’s pretty bland as a bar and pretty obsolete as a fast food option. Magic roll, which is right across the street (who i suspect they tried to rip off), is still the crowning glory of the triangle. Fast food has been defined and re defined time and time again by the Magic roll, the portions are huge, the intention is still pure and geared towards the customer. Clifton triangle doesnt want or need the presence of this second rate establishment. im sure the absence of the students throughout summer will rectify the eye sore that is ” The Crap Wrap”…

As a previous business partner in Magic Roll I should clarify that there were once plans to amalgamate with The Real Wrap Co and move into their new premises (which is spacious and has customer seating & WC’s, a garden, it’s on the ‘sunny side of the street’ and, of course, now has a very elegant bar too). Unfortunately that didn’t happen and I am now co-directing The Real Wrap Co instead, yet I still have an excellent relationship with Leon the creator of Magic Roll (we sell his falafel too!) and we have no reason but to wish Magic Roll well. Yes, we have similarities (e.g. we use the same products from the same suppliers and that’s because I was involved in the creation of Magic Rolls and the suppliers sell only top quality produce), but our menu is different and there are many exciting changes on the horizon at The Real Wrap Co and there is no reason for those in allegiance with Magic Rolls to be so unnerved by our existence that they feel the need to write blantant & ridiculous untruths on this forum at 5.39 & 5.44 on a Sunday morning (when, by the way, I was still working as it was a usual busy Saturday night!!!) There is plenty of room for everyone on the Triangle and plenty of restaurants and take-aways to suit all tastes. I do not need to stoop to the level of publishing lies on a public forum and, suffice to say, we are delighted our customers repeatedly confirm they are very happy with our existence (even willingly having to queue along the pavement to visit us during our busiest times) and, with our garden project well underway, we’re looking forward to our customers enjoying a happy Summer in that area too. Please do pop in and introduce yourselves as we would very much like to clear up your misnomers.

By the way, our opening times are:

      Mon-Thurs from Midday – 6pm/8pm
Fri & Sat from midday right through to the early hours when the nightclubs close!

      Yours Truly

LOL, whoever invested in this place is probably crying themselves to sleep nightly… the place got more business and attention before it even existed!

Was in here last week and tried (for research purposes) one of their wraps expecting a warmed up version of something you might find in Sainsbury’s as a sandwich alternative but was absolutely blown away by the quality. Lovely doughy thick wrap full of flavours (went for el Jefe too) and felt both hearty and healthy. Best thing I’ve tasted from any of the Park St/Triangle food places for a long time.

There seems to be some history with competitors Magic Roll opposite. I’m sure, the comments above are _completely_ unconnected.

(Full disclosure: have been speaking with the guys that run it about some design work , hence the research – my stomach and tastebuds however have NOT been involved)

    plans to amalgamate – poppycock
involved in the creation of Magic Rolls – tish tosh,
and as for being competition for the magic roll – balderdash!

Maybe these could be some great names for your rolls!!!
