Paint the Duke of York pub’s new walls

The Duke of York pub in St Werburgh’s has launched a competition for artists to design its outside walls.

The Jubilee Road pub is already known for its murals, but after its current rendering wants to give the building its first makeover in 10 years.

If seeing your design plastered across the walls isn’t enough of an accolade, there is also free beer for a year for the winner.

If interested, email thedukeartspace@yahoo.co.uk.

The competition closes on December 31.

In other St Werburgh’s news, there has been plenty of new street art of late, including the latest design on the billboard on the side of St Werburgh’s Wine on the Mina Road and York Street junction.

It’s part of a project called Burg Arts, which since 2011 has seen a new piece painted every month.

Unusually, the latest piece incorporates the work that was previously there by Silent Hobo as part of the new design.

Venturing into the Mina Road tunnel, there is a huge piece by Arts Crew, featuring Bender from Futurama:

And still in the tunnel and continuing the cartoon theme, here are Pinky and the Brain plotting human enslavement:

Mina Road tunnel is always a fascinating place to visit. Wasn’t there even a string quartet who played there earlier this year?

  2. Penny says:

I love the Pinky and the brain piece! I hope that artist gets to paint the pub. I live close by and would love to see it!
