My Bristol favourites: Paul Bradley

Paul Bradley is one-third of Three Cane Whale, whose eponymous debut album was described by Cerys Matthews as “a glorious adventure into new folk”.

Paul (below, left) plays the acoustic guitar, miniature harp and tin whistle in the band, and is also behind children’s music group Crispy Juice and Bristol Kitchen Radio.

Three Cane Whale are playing the Anglican Chapel at Arnos Vale on Friday, September 6, with support from John Pearce. For more information, visit www.arnosvale.org.uk.

Here are Paul’s top-five Bristol favourites:

Blackberrying on the Downs
“The slightly guilty but grateful thrill of foraging for delicious, wild food from nature’s larder – for nowt.”

Stove-topping my freshly-roasted beans from Two Day Coffee Roasters
“As a confessed coffee obsessive, it’s so good to have a superlative artisan roaster within walking distance from my door.”

An unexpected vista of the Suspension Bridge on a humdrum day
“No matter how many times I return to Bristol from outside, it’s the sight of the bridge (typically from the Cumberland Basin flyover) that re-convinces me how much I love living here.”

Another Bristol hill
“Another unpredicted gift of jumbled perspective. Red pantiles everywhere. You could be in Italy.”

Late summer turning to early autumn
“Gorgeous light, blue sky, crisp air. Maybe bonfire smoke. Replete with promise for the wee boy in me. Promise of what? I don’t really know.”
