Look at the list of artists of the Gromit Unleashed sculptures and you will see Vivi Cuevas’ name only once – for A Mandrill’s Best Friend outside Bristol Zoo.
But Chilean artist Cuevas is actually responsible for many more Gromits, painting Peter Lord’s Salty Sea Dog, Peter Brookes’ Two Eds Are Better Than One, Huncan Daskell’s Gromitasaurus, Richard Williams’ Roger and providing the base coat of blue for Axel Scheffler’s The Grommalo.
When Carosello by Italian artist Giuliano Carapia was damaged, it was Cuevas who was called upon for the retouching work.
Her latest commission is for Visit England. Buoyed by the success of Gromit Unleashed, the tourism agency are taking it on a journey across the country.
