Corn Street and Small Street will both be closed to cars at the weekend from later this month.

Following the success of the Make Sundays Special events, the next of which takes place this weekend, an Experimental Traffic Order will come into place from August 24 to close both roads to all vehicles except bicycles from 10am to 8pm on Saturdays and 10am to midnight on Sundays.

Chris Chubb from Small Street Espresso said: “So far we have really enjoyed Make Sundays Special. It has brought a lot of new people to the area and there has been a great family atmosphere every month.

“The Old City is an area that is undergoing a lot of change at the moment, with lots of new independent businesses opening up all the time.

“Make Sundays Special have enabled people to see these changes in the area, and the new road closures will hopefully help drive these changes even further.”

Mayor of Bristol George Ferguson said: “I want this culture of claiming back the streets and really making the most of our wonderful Old City to continue, offering residents and visitors a welcoming, vibrant atmosphere.”

good vibes. I’ve really enjoyed these events so far, and I hope they continue to grow and draw in more people and fun times.
I’d also be interested in seeing figures for travel times via motorised transport and see if anyone has decided to change their modes of transport on those days… we’ll see :)
