I’m writing this as Andy Murray is midway through the third set of his first match of this year’s Wimbledon. They’re playing under the Centre Court roof in SW19, sadly not an option to those in BS1 wanting to watch the tennis on Bristol’s two big screens, the permanent screen in Millennium Square and a temporary screen erected especially for the fortnight’s tennis in Quakers Friars.

Both viewing areas have deck chairs for spectators to use. Today in Millennium Square, they were clearing up after the weekend’s Festival of Nature so there were only two rows of seats, while over in Quakers Friars they have created a “village green”, with strawberries and cream for sale and a children’s area with games alongside the colourful deck chairs. The preparations have been made, all we need now is some sunshine and British success on the world’s most famous grass courts.

  1. Wow, that’s great stuff.. Thanks for info! Will definitely go to watch some Wimbledon over the weekend! :)

  2. Ooh, are they doing the film thing again as well? I really enjoyed my open-air viewing of Breakfast at Tiffany’s last year.
