The Cube has successfully raised the £185,000 needed to buy the freehold of its own building, securing its future in perpetuity.
Plans now include for a better office and admin area, a more spacious bar, solar energy array, better access for those with restricted mobility, a larger lounge area, residency space for visiting artists and improved toilet areas.
There will also be more resources to put on, stage, commission and host better programmes and events.
A statement released last night said: “What has been done tonight can’t be underestimated. You’ve not only bought the Cube, you have ensured that, no matter what goes on around it, there will ALWAYS be an arts centre on Dove Street South, Bristol. You’re all bloody brilliant.”
Money is still being raised, with an original Banksy artwork not being auctioned until the new year, meaning that it is likely that the Cube will now be able to raise at least the £220,000 needed to install a digital cinema system.
