A film project embodying the creative spirit of the Cube in Kingsdown sees a feature film made up of 70 one-minute long takes from contributors who have passed through the cinema’s doors.
Contributors so far to The Film That Buys The Cinema include filmmakers, musicians, poets, wrestlers, radicals, community groups and members of the audience.
“There will be a lot to take in,” says Sarah from the Cube.
“Trusted musicians are transforming into storytellers, some singing new songs, others conjuring film noir ditties, fly-on-the-wall digital diaries or computer graphics, pop art, video feedback and Super 8mm exposures.”
Names of participants announced so far include Devendra Banhart, Efterklang and Reggie Watts (below).
The Cube has until the end of this year to raise the £45,000 left to reach the £185,000 asking price to buy the building they are in.
With opportunities to finance the project, this could be the way to raise the final amount of money that the Cube needs to complete the purchase of its freehold and secure the cinema’s future.
