“Would you like a loyalty card?” No thank you. “Are you sure?” Yes.
I sit down.
A couple of minutes later I collect my coffee from the bar. “Would you like a loyalty card?” No thank you. “Are you sure?” Yes.
Being asked for a loyalty card in cafes is getting to be as annoying as being asked in WH Smith’s whether you want reduced price chocolates, sweets and bottle of water when all you want is a newspaper.
So I didn’t walk out of the Boston Tea Party on the Gloucester Road with a loyalty card, but I remain a loyal BTP customer.
This new cafe is the fifth in Bristol from a growing business that started in the city and has since expanded as far afield as Barnstable and Worcester, with Cheltenham’s first coming soon.
The latest opening is in what used to be part of the Horfield & Bishopston Unionist Club, still here but no longer needing so much space and now just upstairs.
A reminder of those days is the patterned wallpaper on the ceiling, artfully ripped away but not entirely disappeared.
The club’s former skittles alley now forms part of the large back room, with reclaimed doors separating booths on one side, a long table stretching down the middle and banquette seating on the other side.
Family friendly elements include play areas both inside and outside, while for adults the cafe stays open until 8pm from Sunday to Wednesday and until 9pm from Thursday to Saturday.

Why would you *not* want a loyalty card? And why make such a big deal about being asked twice. If it was two different people, how were they to know? If it was one then they were probably a) surprised you didn’t given what a good deal it is or b) still getting used to a new job or c) busy and distracted or even on autopilot
The guy who did this article needs to suffer because people cant even ask him if he wants a loyalty card but he’s nasty enough to class himself as loyal, i think he’s just miserable.

Perhaps the reviewer visits so many coffee shops, that his or her wallet would soon be overflowing with loyalty cards were they to accept every single one. Perhaps YOU are the ones being mean for picking on the reviewer so publicly….. This is a review; I suggest you don’t read them in future if you find criticism so deeply upsetting
For what it is worth, I visited BTP on Sunday and was disappointed with the (cold) food and miserable acoustics due to the trendy bare walls and hard surfaces. Complained about the freezing cold dish and the waitress was very helpful and apologetic – free refund and hot drinks were given.
Love BTP chain usually, but each branch has it’s own personality – the gloucester road one must be great if you have kids, but therefore one to avoid if you have a hangover and don’t want to listen to them screaming.
