Which pub serves the cheapest drinks in Bristol?
According to extensive research carried out by a former Royal Marine, the cheapest pint of bitter is Courage Best for £1.89 at the Assembly in Bedminster, the cheapest lager is Carlsberg for £1.94 at the Roo Bar on Whiteladies Road and the cheapest cider is Thatchers Gold for £2.20 at the London Inn, also in Bedminster.
Over the last few weeks, Dave Leaning from Redland has visited almost every pub and bar in Bristol.
The task is nothing for a man who has walked across Australia for charity, and who now has more than 150 pubs and 1,400 beers logged on a new website, www.getthebeersin.org.
Alongside the drinks prices, the website has the ability to find pubs with a beer garden, late opening hours, live sports, live music, food and discounts.
“Beer prices have gone up massively in the last few years and they’re not going to be coming down anytime soon,” says Dave.
“When I’m out and about I’ve often noticed that the quality of the beer I’m being served can vary from place to place.
“That’s what gave me the idea for this concept, a place where you, the consumer can find out if you’re being overcharged on price or neglected for quality by the landlords that are serving you.
“Hopefully this idea will put power back in the hands of the consumer, power to choose the best value and quality.”
