If you have walked to Temple Meads from Queen Square over the last few days, you will already have seen Pickle.
Located at the end of Portwall Lane near Redcliffe Way, it must be on one of the biggest thoroughfares in terms of footfall in all of Bristol, with the added bonus of being surrounded by hundreds of hungry office workers.
It’s all a far cry from Pickle’s original home tucked away in the courtyard of Bridewell Space off Nelson Street, known about by those in the know but not many others.
The location may have changed but the high standard of the sandwiches certainly hasn’t.
These are big, packed with a bewildering number of options and already proving popular enough to have sold out in Pickle’s first week in its new home.
My Big Fish was made up of tuna, lemon mayo, cheddar, spring onion, coleslaw and, of course, pickles, served on grilled Herbert’s bread.
Other options in the first week were the Soprano, Grilled Cheese, Hot Chick, The A’lot’ment and Pickled Pig, all freshly made in the trailer.
Sandwiches cost between £3.50 and £3.95, with a lunchtime meal deal of £4.95 seeing it alongside a drink and crisps or sweet treat.
The scattered remains of oats from a flapjack stuck to my two-and-a-half-year-old daughter’s chin meant that she greatly approved of my sweet treat, which soon became her own.
Wraps and savouries will both be coming soon, while breakfast options consist of pastries, porridge and sandwiches, with bacon and sausage sandwiches both costing £2.95.
Pickle opens from 8am every morning, with lunch served between midday and 2.30pm.
