When Deal or No Deal moves from its current home of the Paintworks in Brislington to the Bottle Yard in Hengrove, presenter Noel Edmonds will have to find a new pub for his post-show drink.
Edmonds can often be spotted in Bocabar, but soon he might be found propping up the bar at the Shield & Dagger in Whitchurch, the nearest pub to the Bottle Yard in an area of Bristol not well served for drinking establishments.
Owned by the Sizzling Pub Co, canny marketeers promise your money back if the steak you order isn’t sizzling when it arrives at your table.
When I visited the Shield & Dagger on Bank Holiday Monday, most punters were making the most of the last of the summer sun on the outside seating.
Even with a view of a nail bar and double glazing firm, outside the pub is more inviting than inside, which with its faded orange carpet and muzak on the stereo, has the feel of a bar at a Travelodge.
I have yet to hear of entertainment like The Twat Pack at a Travelodge. This band was due to play last Saturday.
Thatchers Gold and Blackthorn are the ciders on tap, with Butcombe and Bass the ales.
Edmonds will be getting a rude awakening if he wants a post-show drink near Deal or No Deal’s new home.
The Shield & Dagger, East Dundry Road, Whitchurch, Bristol, BS14 0LN. 01275 892975.
Well, you have The Cartwheel in Oatlands Avenue, Whitchurch and The Yeoman on the main Wells Road opposite Gilda Parade, both are closer (albeit, not massively) than The Shield & Dagger.
Alternatively, he could pop over to the bar in the South Bristol Sports Centre in West Town Lane, which is probably the closest place to grab a pint or two.
Oh, my bad – I was thinking of a different trading estate. Not been in there for years, but The Cartwheel is about the same distance away, and always used to be a “nicer” pub.
