Following the success of the Treasure Island theme at the children’s area of this year’s Harbour Festival, Bristol could soon be getting a unique Pirate Festival to add to the city’s packed events calendar.
Peter Holt, Bristol City Council director of communication and marketing, is leading the campaign for the new festival.
He said: “I have an ambition for Bristol to have a full-on, world-class Pirate Festival. I think it’d be huge fun, and a giant boost to tourism.
“So to test the water, the Castle Park children’s zone of this year’s Harbour Festival is themed as Treasure Island, with a pirate ship stage
“Though in due course, I want this to grow into a full-on pirate event for adults and kids alike.”

We had a cracking time building Iniquity III and are definitely on board for something bigger and better! YARRRRRR!
M Shed does not have a single thing about Bristol’s history of pirates, you’d have thought that they would’ve been falling over themselves to display lots of info on Blackbeard?!!!!
What’s the idea of this? To perpetuate a series of cliches and myths from popular children’s books – Peter Pan, Treasure Island – or to discuss the ‘Atlantic proletariat’.
Holt’s silly little ship and dressing-up games in Castle Park doesn’t look too hopeful does it?
