Bristol’s hydrogen-powered ferry

The UK’s first hydrogen-powered ferry is being shown off to the public today.

Hydrogenesis has been operating now on the Floating Harbour since February, but today will see a celebration to mark the successful trials.

The ferry is operated by Bristol Hydrogen Boats, a consortium made up of No. 7 Boat Trips, the Bristol Packet and Auriga Energy.

Initial funding of £225,000 was provided by Bristol City Council as part of its Green Capital initiatives.

Hydrogenesis will be on the water during next weekend’s Harbour Festival and also running a ferry service throughout the summer.

My first question would be how do you get the hydrogen. t may be zero emissions in Bristol, but if a factory in Hull is buggering the planet to produce the stuff from oil it’s hardly an improvement.
