Despite vociferous opposition, George Ferguson is still vowing to press ahead with six residents parking schemes in Cliftonwood, Clifton Village, Clifton East, Clifton West and Redland but has promised more time to consider rolling out the scheme across the city.
Bristol’s mayor has confirmed he is still very keen to proceed with the early implementation of the Cotham and Clifton RPZ schemes, and also reiterated that RPZs are not profit making.
At a meeting of the Sustainable Development and Transport Scrutiny Commission, Ferguson also promised that local consultation on schemes will be “thorough”.
On Tuesday, city councillors voted 49 to two in favour of pausing the process of rolling out RPZ, but it was just a symbolic vote, with the fear of many being that the consultation will also only lead to the implementation of the scheme city-wide regardless of public feeling.
