Esther O’Callaghan is the director of this year’s events at Creative Common. The space behind Temple Meads is currently playing host to Bianco by No Fit State Circus, with other events planned over the next few months including film screenings, gigs, lots of circus and a cycling festival curated by I Am Kloot.
Esther was previously associate producer at the Manchester International Festival. Her varied CV also takes in executive producing for Gorillaz on tour and founding The Factory Foundation in memory of Tony Wilson.
Here are Esther’s top-five Bristol favourites:
St Werburgh’s City Farm
“Bristol has a number of city farms but the one closest to my heart is St Werburgh’s City Farm as it is the first one I went to and I am a trustee. It really is a green oasis in the heart of the city.”
The Lido
“I can’t stand going to the gym, so I’ve finally stumbled across the Lido – an outdoor pool with a sauna, steam room and the Victoria pub next door. Swim, sauna, steam room and a Belgian beer all in one evening – best thing ever.”
20th Century Flicks
“The ‘high fidelity’ of DVD rental shops, Dave and the gang are worth the trip to 20th Century Flicks every time – and they even deliver DVDs by push bike.”
Sunday reggae and roast at the Cadbury
“Sunday roasts in Bristol are a bit of an institution – but as the Cadbury is stumbling distance from home, it tops the list for me.”
Bear Grillz
“On the walk to work, even if I’m not buying food, Tim and Bez at Bear Grillz always cheer me up. The Bear Pit is another example of the local, independent Bristol attitude that can transform a bit of an eyesore of a roundabout into a thriving, vibrant community space.”
