Bristol’s best-known gig-goer, Jeffrey “Big Jeff” Johns, has been honoured with his own stone at the front of the Fleece.
Writing on their Facebook page, the Fleece said: “We told him we’d be doing this and that’s the stone he chose. It’s also exactly where he stands. He usually leans back on the pole between the bands. That’s the only time he really stands still. Ever.”
why do venues and bands continue to pander theis ‘legend’? If he paid to get in (and don’t give me the bull about him paying for a third or a half of gigs – that’s clearly b*llocks) then fine, but this is just nauseating now…
Cue the vitriol….
I don’t begrudge Big Jeff’s love of music, just so long as his boundless enthusiasm doesn’t dent the enjoyment of other gig-goers. Which in my opinion happens all too often.
@jdog
Just wondering if you had an evidence based breakdown of how many gigs Jeff pays for? Or how many are paid in-kind through his work for numerous Bristol music institutions? Or how many are covered by his gig reviews and media access? Or how many are covered by bands actively requesting him to be there – and covering his ticket?
If not, you’re kinda just farting in the wind.
What work does Jeff do for Bristol music institutions? And which ones in particular?
Media access is an interesting way of putting it, he writes the odd review here and there.
As for bands actively requesting his presence, some might, though an awful lot may well get doorstepped when they are loading gear in and asked for g.list by him.
@sigh
check his twitter timeline. nearly EVERY night begging for free entry, If he’s not doing it on twitter he’s loitering outside tour buses at 6pm
If he must insist on getting in for free every night he could at least have the decency to not stand in the middle blocking the paying customer’s view
*fart*
Been to so many gigs where Jeff has been at the front doing his thing and he’s never blocked my view. If it really bothered musicians that he wasn’t going to pay for the gig than I’m sure they would tell him that guestlist was full or something but they don’t. I’m sure it’s nice for a lot of smaller/support bands that someone in the audience actually looks like they want to be there.
