A Bristol restaurateur who describes herself as “the female Justin Bieber” is among the candidates on the new series of The Apprentice, which returns to BBC One tonight.

Sophie Lau started her career as a waitress before opening the short-lived Makan on Whiteladies Road, where she said her biggest mistake was serving sweet and sour chicken as it made the restaurant look “tacky”.

On her audition video, the 22-year-old former Bristol Grammar School student reveals her game-plan to be extremely competitive from day one.

“Go big or go home, and back yourself,” she says. “If I didn’t back myself I’d probably be dead right now. That’s my secret to success.”
