A category celebrating Bristol’s best street food is a noticeable omission from the Bristol Good Food Awards 2013 (the shortlist of which was announced yesterday).
So it is a welcome coincidence that tonight sees the launch event of Bristol Eats (BEATS), a new street food collective made up of some of Bristol’s best street food traders including Bagel Boy, Meat & Bread, Vee Double Moo and CUPP.
Lakota’s car park is the unlikely venue for the first night street market, which is set to become a weekly event not only featuring food but also music, art and performers alongside a licensed bar.
“We want BEATS events to capture the atmosphere of a carnival or street party,” says Bridget Pilkington from Vee Double Moo.
“BEATS and Lakota is an exciting combination, great music, drinking and some of the best fresh new street food on the South West scene. Free entry, great local food, drinking, music, art…We have a feeling our events are going to be right up Bristol’s street!”
Tonight’s street food market takes place from 5pm to 10pm. For more information, visit www.bristoleats.co.uk.

Surely the bear pit or even the fountains is a more obvious location for this.
Hi, the Bear Pit would be great but can’t host vehicles. Food trucks are a key part of the street food scene! The Yard at Lakota worked out really well, good size but contained enough for a great atmosphere. Tell me more about the fountains? Not sure where you mean. BEATS will be trading at other venues across Bristol periodically so look forward to seeing you at The Yard or elsewhere v soon.
