The Miles Arms in Avonmouth – a hotel as well as a pub – is from a bygone era when Avonmouth was a holiday destination. Unthinkable today, that is unless you get on the Severn Beach line with your bucket and spade and get off the train a couple of stops too early.
With a balcony and conservatory, the pub would not look out of place on a seafront. But its location is anything but picturesque, despite appearances.
The Miles Arms remains, however, a popular place for a drink – Butcombe Gold and Greene King were the ales on tap when I visited last week – and classic pub food.
Owners Sizzling Pubs even promise that “if your skillet doesn’t sizzle, send it back and we’ll replace your meal”.
