Pub of the week: Channings

The reason why I’m writing about Channings today is because of a rainbow I saw last week, framed perfectly above the Pembroke Road pub as I was walking my little daughter back from her childminder. It was the first rainbow that she has ever taken notice of in her 21 months on this earth.

The reason why I’m writing about Channings is not because of its beer garden, one of the largest on this side of Bristol; nor is it to warn that it attracts a large number of Hooray Henrys and Henriettas, not so cash-strapped that they have to spend mummy and daddy’s money in the nearby student union.

Nor is it because Channings, when it was once a grand house, was rumoured to have been the gift of Queen Victoria to one of her ladies-in-waiting.

No, it is because of this rainbow and the delight on my daughter’s face:
