You have a choice of two superb one-man shows if you fancy a last-minute trip to the theatre tonight. And it’s got to be tonight, as both Buttercup at the Wardrobe (reviewed here) and Coelacanth at the Brewery are at the end of their all-too-brief runs.
Coelacanth tells the story of a man who climbs trees. And that’s about the long and short, or the up and down, of it. Except there’s so much more, all told in beautifully constructed prose by Ben Moor, who has adapted this stage show for Radio Four.
Moor is an erudite raconteur, who draws us into the world of competitive tree climbing and the emotions of his character with consummate ease, all the while producing delightful turns of phrase which make this performance an utter joy.
