The Encounters Short Film Festival is this weekend screening the 2011 Oscar-nominated short films at the Watershed. One of the films, Wish 143, was filmed in Bristol. It’s about a teenager with a terminal illness who has been granted one wish, which he wants to be an hour alone with a naked woman.

Chris Tidman from Shorts International will be introducing the programme on Sunday, the first event in the Encounters Short Film Festival’s Nominated Shorts Season running at the Watershed and the Hen & Chicken pub until June.

Sunday’s screenings also include British film The Confession, about a nine-year-old boy’s first confession, and Irish film The Crush, about an eight-year-old boy’s crush on his teacher and how he challenges her boyfriend to a duel to the death. Na Wewe from Belgium deals with the civil war in Burundi.

The Oscar for live action short film this year went to God of Love (below), a US film shot in black and white starring lounge singing darts champion Raymond, who finds his prayers answered when he receives a mysterious package of passion-inducing darts.
