A film made in Bristol whose distribution company went bust weeks before the planned theatrical release have turned to Kickstarter to help the film into cinemas.
8 Minutes Idle was shot entirely in Bristol in 2011, with locations including Stokes Croft, Cabot Circus and Kingsdown.
Much of the music is by Kid Carpet, and a scene in the Thekla even features a cameo appearance from Big Jeff.
The dark romantic comedy follows the perils and traumas of your first job, as murderous parents and homelessness get in the way of true love.
Made under iFeatures, Creative England’s low budget filming initiative, 8 Minutes Idle is based on the award-winning novel by Matt Thorne and stars Tom Hughes and Ophelia Lovibond (above).
The film’s Kickstarter campaign was launched yesterday and has already raised more than £3,000 of its £20,000 goal.
If the campaign is successful, it is hoped that 8 Minutes Idle will get its long-awaited theatrical release on Valentine’s Day next year.
Supporters can pledge from £5 to £5,000 with the rewards including pre-release downloads, credits on the film, limited edition Valentine’s Day cards designed by illustrator Felix Massie and tickets to the film’s premiere.
“8 Minutes Idle is a dark, funny and brilliant film that is a shining example of the great creative talent here in Bristol,” says director Mark Simon Hewis (below).
“It’s also a film that captures a real sense of the city – its character, its humour and its style.
“A successful Kickstarter campaign will allow us to share what make the city such a cool place to live and work with audiences across the UK.”
