The Tea Birds

Walking into The Tea Birds on Park Street is like walking into your great aunt’s house.

There is a dresser with cake stands, pin cushions and tea cosies. There is plenty of pastel.

And when my sandwiches arrived – made with Hobbs House bread – they were cut into corners and served on china plates.

Fans of Great British Bake Off will feel right at home, with a string of bunting in the window to herald the arrival of this new cafe found in what used to be Swinky Sweets.

Vintage is big business in Bristol at the moment, and this is the latest incarnation of a trend that sees no sign of abating any time soon.

The tea birds themselves are best friends Anna and Jodie, who grew up in Bristol before both going to UWE.

You can really indulge in tea in their new cafe, with a choice of around a dozen different varieties.

Cream tea costs £4 per person, while afternoon tea at £12 includes a selection of sandwiches, a  scone, cupcake and pot of tea.

Come next summer, tea will be able to be enjoyed in a secluded walled garden.

To celebrate their opening, The Tea Birds are hosting a 1950s-style tea party on November 30 with dressing up, a raffle and face painting.

Bring your great aunt. She would love it.
