One Chance released today

There aren’t many feature films based on the lives of former Bristol City Council councillors.

But who hasn’t wanted to see a biopic about Gary Hopkins?

For now, Hollywood has to make do with Paul Potts, a Lib Dem councillor between 1996 and 2003.

At least one current Bristol councillor, Christian Martin, is a film director – although those with a delicate disposition might be best advised not to see his 2011 short, Fucked.

One Chance, starring James Corden as Potts, is released today, but glosses over Potts’ Bristol background – born in Kingswood, raised in Fishponds, educated at  St Mary Redcliffe and Temple School.

Instead, the Potts on celluloid has been made Welsh and even sent to work down a mine before finding fame on Britain’s Got Talent.
