An edible trophy created by Heston Blumenthal and his team at the Fat Duck will be coming to Bristol after Poco in Stokes Croft was named Best Ethical Restaurant in last night’s Observer Food Monthly Awards.

The award returns to the South West two years after the Ethicurean in Wrington won the same accolade and a few months after Poco also won the Sustainable Restaurant Association’s award for environment.

Poco’s efforts to be ethical and sustainable are considerable:

  • 90% of ingredients sourced from UK
  • 10% of ingredients imported, ethically, non air freight, from fair sources
  • Most veg from organic, local community farms within Bristol area
  • All fish seasonal and landed in Lyme Bay using sustainable methods
  • ‘Weigh the Waste’ every day monitors how much waste is produce and how it can be reduced, working towards being waste zero
  • More than 90% of refuse recycled and up-cycled
