The East Bristol Bakery on St Mark’s Road in Easton is celebrating its first birthday this week.

East Bristol Bakery

The bakery was opened by Alex Poulter, who decided to set up the business after training as a baker and finding no suitable vacancies locally.

Alex now employs four staff, with future plans including opening a cafe, following in the footsteps of both Hart’s Bakery at Temple Meads and Mark’s Bread on North Street.

One little secret is that every day in the bakery, a loaf is stamped with a series of secret markings.

When Alex decided that he was going to open a bakery, he took the first tin he bought and hammered a circle, triangle and square into it.

Every day one person takes home a loaf with these markings stamped into the bottom, and in the 12 months the East Bristol Bakery has been open only one person has ever mentioned it.
