Art on Bristol billboards

Billboards have become art canvasses across Bristol.

Two billboards on the Bath Road near the Paintworks are currently being used to display unusual photographs of Bristol by Italian photographer Carmine Mauro Daprile in the latest piece in the Bristol Temple Quarter Commissions.

‘#29’ ‘Wake up Bristol’ and ‘#34’ were shot during the In Between Time Festival in February 2013 as part of a city centre ‘cosplayer flashmob’.

Cosplay (short for costume play) is where participants take on the role and look of a character out of a work of fiction.

The photographs depict Temple Meads, the derelict former Royal Mail sorting office and the land earmarked for Bristol’s long-awaited arena.

Meanwhile, over in St Werburgh’s on the corner of Mina Road and York Street, is a billboard which hosts regular pieces of art.

The latest example is this giant goldfish which was being painted over the weekend by Silent Hobo:
