Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival brings some of the world’s leading exponents of keeping it brief to Bristol for six days at the Watershed, Arnolfini and other assorted venues across the city including a pop-up cinema at the Parlour Showrooms on College Green.

Animation is also a key part of the festival, which this year sees a special celebration of Who Framed Roger Rabbit director Richard Williams.

Today’s launch events at the Watershed include the Best of the South West showcase featuring several Bristol filmmakers.

Another popular annual event is the Late Lounge, special screenings on Friday and Saturday nights of films not for the faint-hearted.

Now in its 19th year, Encounters will screen more than 200 short films between tonight and Sunday, with leading and upcoming directors, writers and producers mingling with film fans catching a short or two.

There will be a new category for music videos this year and a specific focus on Swiss filmmakers.

Catch all of the award-winning films at the Watershed on Sunday at 11am and 5pm.
