It’s unfortunate that Bristol Kite Festival comes only a few weeks after Bristol Balloon Fiesta. Because it’s rather similar but not quite as good.
To attract more interest this year, a kite has been made celebrating George Ferguson’s love of red trousers. Look, here it is:
Look up to the skies at Ashton Court this weekend and see other kites by enthusiasts from as far away as New Zealand and the USA.
The world’s largest kite, in the shape of the flag of Kuwait, will be making an appearance at the finale displays today and tomorrow.
Other activities include kite making workshops, food and drink stalls and choreographed routines.
Bristol’s mayor isn’t the only person to get a kite made in his honour either, with flying portraits of Elvis Presley, Muhammad Ali and Johnny Cash also gracing the festival.
Just because something is big doesn’t mean it’s better, I prefer the kite festival over the Balloon Fiesta because you don’t have the large fairground and all the other dross, which has made the balloon festival somewhere to avoid on the Bristol social calendar. Plus unlike the Balloons, kites like the wind.
Its a small to medium event for the whole family with plenty of things to do and watch.
