Bristol Festival of Puppetry starts today, with Fireside Tales with Granddad in the Brewery Theatre and The Smoking Puppet Extravaganza at the Tobacco Factory for a more adult audience.

This year’s festival, which runs until September 8, features indoor events, outdoor events, films and workshops.

There is even a carnival taking place along North Street on Saturday.

Aardman’s Peter Lord (below) celebrates puppet animation on Wednesday, while a show not to be missed is The Odyssey from Paper Cinema, last seen at Mayfest.

Free events include The Smoking Puppet Cabaret, in which many of the artists performing in the theatres will also be appearing; the Creatures of Bristol Carnival; Wild Storytelling; Festival Breakfasts; and the Aardman exhibition and puppet trail.
