The Stable

Unlimited toast for breakfast. Pizza, pies and 60 types of cider for lunch and dinner. The Stable has more than one way to entice customers through its doors.

The Watershed’s new tenants promise to use only organic British flour to create their sourdough pizza bases and aim to source toppings from as locally as possible.

Taking over what used to be Chicago Rock Cafe, the third Stable after other premises in Bridport and Weymouth in Dorset, is most reminiscent in Bristol of the new Thali Cafe on North Street, which also has pillars and the requisite bare stone walls in another former industrial building.

The slices of pizzas and pies that I sampled on launch night were excellent with really fresh flavours, while the pizza bases were good enough to eat by themselves.

A favourite pizza was the Bristol Blaster, made with pork, naga chillies, garlic, red onion, basil and a few other flavours by chefs whose ovens are pride of place in the middle of the room.

My companion informed me that she thought the pies, made by Bath’s Lovett Pies, were even better than Pieminister. Saying that in Bristol, however, should get you strung upside down from the Downs water tower.

The renaissance of this stretch of real estate began with No. 1 Harbourside. Now with The Stable, and especially its cider and unlimited toast, it’s got even better.

Was there also and I concur fully with your sentiments!

  2. This all starts to get slightly tedious and predictable doesn’t it?

Two months ago the deeply average Turtle Bay was talked up after a free press night. Now The Stable gets the same gushing treatment on the basis of, er … a free press night!

What does “really fresh flavours” mean anyway?
