Chrissie Wellington moves to Bristol

One of the UK’s greatest ever athletes is now a Bristol resident.

Chrissie Wellington is a four-time World Ironman triathlon champion (2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011) and current world record holder.

For the uninitiated, an Ironman is a 2.4-mile swim followed by a 112-mile bike ride, topped off with a marathon.

The Independent called Wellington’s autobiography published last year, A Life Without Limits, “inspirational in the truest sense, because she feels strongly that sport can make ordinary people do extraordinary things”.

Before becoming a professional triathlete, Wellington, 36, worked as an adviser on international development and for Rural Reconstruction Nepal on development projects in Nepal.

The recently retired Wellington has revealed on Twitter that since moving to Bristol she has taken up painting and tweeted a photo of the Chew Valley on a cycle ride.

She has already been spotted cycling down Whiteladies Road and was also seen last week at the opening night of Bianco at Creative Common.

Here is Wellington and boyfriend and fellow triathlete Tom Lowe with the obligatory Clifton Suspension Bridge in the background pic:

We asked Wellington’s management company for an interview to accompany this story but were told that “unfortunately Chrissie’s schedule is very full at the moment and I am afraid that there is no opportunity to help you on this occasion”.
