King Street will be transformed into a “grassy meadow” when Bristol Old Vic stage The Boy Who Cried Wolf outside the theatre.

Around 15 square metres of grass will be laid on the cobbled street, with a woodland glade featuring trees and plant life.

The production, from July 13 to September 1, will be the first to be performed outside the theatre since Treasure Island in 2011, where more than half the audience had previously never seen a show at the Old Vic.

Speaking to the Bristol Post, Old Vic artistic director Tom Morris said that the set will be constructed ”using a combination of rugged engineering, graceful invention and bits of string”.

“What we are doing is providing platforms from which you can make extraordinary leaps of the imagination. This is our job.”
