Breakdancing Jesus in Stokes Croft

A breakdancing Jesus has been painted on the wall outside the Canteen in Stokes Croft by London artist Cosmo Sarson.

The work, inspired by breakdancers performing to Pope John Paul II in 2004, was the winning design in a competition organised by the Canteen and the Facade Gallery in Hamilton House.

One kilogramme of gold glitter was used in the creation of the mural, which took a week to complete and will remain in place until 2015.

I think that looks great. I wonder how many people won’t want it to be painted over in 2015?

Why have MANY things not been done in this neighbourhood over the years? Residents have been banging their heads against a brickwall trying to get the Council to do anything or even to communicate with them. And by the way, I strongly disagree with you about Avon Crescent being safe. 4300 people have signed a petition to reroute traffic onto the main road. As residents we observe daily that they (and we) do not feel safe.

We tried unsuccessfully to eat here twice in one day, the general lack of attention by the staff and the menacing look the waitress gave us while we stood at the bar made me decide to move up Whiteladies to the Boston Tea instead.Two of us initially tried to eat at 14.00 on Saturday 08 March and were told, eventually, that they run the breakfast menu until 14.30. I was told that I didn’t need to book and we said that we’d return around 16.00.Our second attempt was equally fraught as it took 5 or 6 minutes for us to attract anyone’s attention in an almost empty room. The waitress completely ignored me twice as she walked by refusing to make any eye contact to even acknowledge us as potential customers. Finally someone appeared from behind the bar to brusquely inform me that “the kitchen is closed”.I said I was surprised because we’d been in earlier and said that we’d be back now and no one had mentioned this. The person I spoke to earlier was behind the bar now as well valiantly writing in a book ignoring me while his colleague explained that the chef’s were setting up for evening meals now.The staffs attitude, the lack of any apology and the general disarray helped to quickly made my mind up. If this is the front of house they’re happy to project I didn’t want to give them my custom. The prices are at the higher end for this type of cuisine and the service and staff should reflect that. This didn’t.
