A sculpture of Gromit made out of mosaics for Gromit Unleashed has more than one thousand tiny hand-cut pieces just for the collar.

“Working up on the step ladder tackling the ears, kneeling on a pad to work on the feet and squeezing in between gaps I didn’t think possible – I didn’t quite realise how physical mosaicing Gromit was going to be,” says artist Julie Vernon in the latest update on her blog.

“I’m pretty much working every available hour of the day, sometimes in my pyjamas and my bones are starting to ache – I feel as though I’ve taken on an assault course.”

Such is the dedication of the Gromit Unleashed artists, whose creations will take to the streets of Bristol in July. There are now just 2.5 legs, 10 toes and the underneath of the ears to go for Julie.
