Frankie filmed in Bristol

Frankie, a new six-part drama starting tonight at 9pm on BBC One, is the latest television show to be filmed in Bristol.

Described as “heart-warming, funny and ultimately life-affirming”, the series deals with the complex world of district nursing with Eve Myles, best known from Torchwood, playing the title role.

Preview clips show scenes which were filmed in former hospital buildings on Grove Road at the top of Whiteladies Road, with many interior sets built at The Bottle Yard production facility in Hengrove.

The trailer shows the picture postcard view of the Suspension Bridge from the Cumberland Basin, and the Floating Harbour.

Shot in Bristol last year between September and December, other locations in Frankie include the Royal Naval Volunteer pub on King Street, St Nicholas Market, Spicer+Cole cafe, and various locations around Redland and Kingsdown.

Berenice Ray, of Bristol Film Office, said: “People are always surprised to learn how many productions are filmed in Bristol every year.

“The city’s versatile locations attract a high number of productions which are set in other locations across the globe.

“Last year Bristol doubled for Cornwall in feature film The Fold, Brighton in Channel 4 drama The Fear, modern-day London in Sherlock and Victorian London in the Doctor Who Christmas special.”
