Skipping – not an activity most people have done since at primary school unless they are a professional boxer.

But also an activity which took Stapleton Road by storm on Saturday as Stapleton Road Working Group hosted a skipping session as part of a series of events aiming to get people out on the street and get them thinking differently about their neighbourhood.

“This is a nod to the traditional energy of hip hop culture and the American Block Parties that would bind communities together through games and music,” said event organiser Cleo Lake.

“After being inspired by the Disney Film Jump In and DJ Fresh’s music video Gold Dust, I thought a Double Dutch event would be fun, eye catching and something new for Bristol.”

New pieces of art were also created on the day as part of artist +D’s Stapleton Road Messages project.

With the help of an A4 scanner and a laptop, +D asked people to scan themselves or their hands and anything they may be wearing or carrying.

The artwork is currently on display at the City Park industrial estate wall opposite the Stapleton Road Chapel.

The aim is to cover the wall with more banners by June 15 in time for the Stapleton Road Festival of Migration.
