Margaret Thatcher in Bristol

So, former prime minister Margaret Thatcher has died at the age of 87. Here she is in 1981, getting into her limousine after visiting a market garden run by the Youth Opportunities Programme at Rownham Hill on the Leigh Woods side of the Clifton Suspension Bridge. In the background, a group of protesters demonstrate against the lack of proper jobs for the young in Bristol.

On the same day, three eggs were thrown at Thatcher’s car when she arrived at a reception in Bristol for party workers. Police arrested three men and were booed by a crowd of jeering protesters as they led them away.
