A workshop taking place today in the Old Council House on Corn Street will be exploring how to return Bristol’s Old City – the area around St Nicholas Market encompassing Corn Street, Broad Street, Small Street and others – back to its former glories.

Proposals to be considered include:

  • an experimental traffic system accompanied by temporary enhancement measures such as planters and decking;
  • suspending parking bays;
  • removing through traffic from Corn Street north of St Nicholas Street;
  • creating a more pedestrian-friendly, continental-style environment;
  • encouraging more on-street activity such as monthly Saturday markets;
  • and traffic-free Sundays.
