Monday: Creole Brasserie opens, Clifton Down
Continuing the current resurgeance of Whiteladies Road, Creole Brasserie is due to open today in what used to be Budokan and most recently the Three Coqs.
Tuesday – October 20: Wild Oats, Bristol Old Vic
Wild Oats is not just the first show in Bristol Old Vic’s new season, but the first show in the theatre after the long-awaited redevelopment of the original Georgian auditorium.
This year sees zombie chase game 2.8 Hours Later staged in the city for the final time, as well as two new headline games and dozens of fringe events in Castle Park on Saturday.
Thursday: Cocktails in the City, St George’s
Some of Bristol’s best cocktail bars including the Rummer, Milk Thistle and Hausbar, come together for mixology masterclasses, demonstrations and tutored tastings.
Friday: Africa Express, Big Top @ Creative Common
Damon Albarn and a host of cohorts including Amadou & Mariam, Baaba Mall and Carl Barât arrive by train to play what will undoubtedly be one of Bristol’s gigs of the year.
Friday: Ghostbusters, Argyle Place
An outdoor screening of the classic film next door to the Lion pub in Cliftonwood which will be serving takeaway food. Gates open at 7pm with the film starting at 8pm.
Friday-Sunday: Factoberfest, Tobacco Factory
Bristol Beer Factory and Tobacco Factory’s annual beer festival, celebrating independent beer and cider, featuring 40 craft beers, as well as live music and DJs, hot food and more.
Friday-Sunday: Nowhere Island, Cumberland Basin
Expect much condemnation from the local press as an island floats into Bristol from the Arctic, with events including films and music, and a welcome from Marcus du Sautoy.
Saturday: Doors Open Day
Bristol Open Doors Day made the pages of Private Eye recently when it was revealed that tours of Temple Meads are cancelled due to the Olympics. Still a highlight of the year.
Sunday: Bristol Zoo Animal Amble, The Downs
Dress as your favourite animal to help raise money to protect endangered species across the world. With prizes for the best dressed walkers and a memento for every participant.
