Staff from Lahloo Pantry in Clifton Village will be painting Bristol bright green this weekend as our best Bristol cafe of 2011 helps introduce the city to matcha, a finely-milled green tea from Japan with more than 100 times the antioxidants of loose leaf green tea.
“Matcha is a superfood in its own right,” says Lahloo Tea founder Kate Gover.
“Lahloo matcha comes from the renowned Uji region in Japan. The young tea leaves are picked early in the spring, and steamed to preserve all their goodness, then traditionally milled and turned into a bright green powder with astonishing health properties. Classified as ceremonial-grade, only 40g are produced per hour.”
The vivid green pigment in matcha is chlorophyll, which has an alkaline effect, naturally detoxifying your body by getting rid of any excess acid.
“Japanese students have long been familiar with the revitalising properties of this tea,” adds Kate. “A cup of matcha will provide a sustained boost of energy that can last up to six hours, without the nasty jitters caused by too many cups of coffee.”
