Today is the day that Bristol Rovers’ long-awaited new stadium should be given the go-ahead by South Gloucestershire councillors. The UWE Stadium will be a 21,700 all-seater arena on land next to the University of the West of England’s Frenchay Campus.
Once planning is granted for the £40m stadium, it will also mean that the proposed Sainsbury’s store on the site of the Memorial Stadium in Horfield is one step closer.
Bristol Rovers chairman Nick Higgs said: “We have strived hard to come up with a scheme that is both fantastic for sports fans in the South West and sympathetic to our neighbours, and we are confident that we have now done that.”
