Much of Clifton Wood will be closed to traffic on Saturday for its 17th annual street party. There will be live music on Clifton Wood Crescent accompanying a number of games and stalls, and international cherry stone spitting and tug of war competitions.
At the heart of the street party will be the deceptively spacious Lion pub, with music outside and in during the evening.
Marooned among the houses on Clifton Wood’s steep streets, the Lion is ideally positioned for many parents next to a children’s playground, but of course they wouldn’t leave their little ones there when they pop next door to the pub, would they?
Ales on tap when I visited last month were Doom Bar, Gem and Tribute, and I counted 14 different bottles of wine available.
Sunday lunch is popular, and the Lion has recently started opening for breakfast from 7.30am, which will also round off the street party in style on Sunday morning.

Kids don’t get left in the park…. We pop into the pub, order a drink then head back to the park with it. If you’re a regular the pub are kind enough to allow this as long as you’re careful and bring your glasses back!
