Bristol will welcome the Olympic Torch Relay today when it arrives into Longwell Green at 5.25pm. The torch will then travel through Hanham, Redcliffe, Lawrence Hill and Old Market, crossing Castle Park at 6.41pm, then heading along Baldwin Street and Welsh Back before being transported by boat from Redcliffe to Millennium Square to arrive at 7.20pm.

Taking place this afternoon from 3.30pm in Millennium Square is a free event featuring performances from local school pupils, youth groups, sports, dance and music organisations. The Bristol leg of the relay will be screened live on the big screen.

Over on the Lloyds Amphitheatre is a ticket-only event, featuring a set from London rapper Labrinth, and acrobatic and dance performances.

The arrival of the torch will be followed by the lighting of the cauldron ceremony, after which there will be a performance from Cirque Bijou in front of the M Shed.

Tomorrow (Wednesday, May 23), the torch will depart from College Green at precisely 5.54am on its way to Cheltenham. It will pass through Flax Bourton, Backwell, Nailsea, Failand and Leigh Woods, before making its way over the Clifton Suspension Bridge at 7.56am.

The torch will then leave Bristol for a second time, skirting the Downs on its way through Westbury-on-Trym, Southmead and Filton.
